A co-director of the Decision Institute, Martin Schilling is also a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics. Currently his main research interests lie in increasing the effectiveness of analytical methods for strategy development in the public and private sector, creating decision-management systems that put investment priorities into perspective, as well as negotiation strategies in collective bargaining. After studying psychology and economics at the Free University of Berlin (FU) and the Technical University of Berlin (TU), he went on to study decision science at the London School of Economics, where he wrote his dissertation at the interface of strategic management and decision science. Martin draws on experience as a consultant on change management, strategic management, and strategic prioritization gained at Bain & Company and his work for the Decision Institute. He conducts workshops and courses in decision and negotiation analysis and teaches at the Hertie School of Governance.

Cornelius Schaub is managing director of the Decision Institute. Prior to co-founding the Decision Institute, he gained consulting experience at the Boston Consulting Group and the OECD in Paris. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research interests lie in the fields of decision analysis and economics with a current focus on strategy development, strategic cost-benefit analysis and socal impact analysis. He publishes in international journals and has been teaching at the LSE and the Hertie School of Governance.

Matthias Afting has been Director of HR Strategy at Deutsche Bahn AG since April 2006. After completing medical school, he was a research fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston in 1998. In 2000, Mr. Afting joined McKinsey & Company in Munich as a consultant focusing on projects in the life sciences and transport/logistics. In the fall of 2003, he was promoted to the position of Engagement Manager (project management), going on to become an Associate Principal (Associate Partner) in January 2006.

Hanjo Arms is the Principal in the Berlin office of A.T. Kearney Management Consultants. He has over twelve years' experience as a management consultant, focusing on company strategy, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, value management and organization, primarily in the utilities and telecommunication industries and in transport and logistics. Hanjo Arms serves as A.T. Kearney’s Director of Corporate Finance for Central Europe.

Before being appointed Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science, Sir Howard Davies was Chairman of the Financial Services Authority. Prior to this, he spent two years as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England and three years as Director General of the Confederation of British Industry. He served as Controller of the Audit Commission from 1987 to 1992, and worked for McKinsey & Company in London from 1982 to 1987. In 1985 he was seconded to the Treasury as Special Advisor to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Michael Mirow is a visiting professor at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. His numerous publications cover topics such as strategic management, innovation, globalization, shareholder value and corporate governance. Beyond working as both a senior advisor and consultant, he serves on the supervisory boards of numerous high-tech and private-equity companies. Prior to his retirement in early 2002, Michael Mirow was Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Strategy at Siemens AG, Germany.

Lawrence Phillips is a visiting professor at the London School of Economics and is the Director of Catalyze Ltd. His areas of expertise are behavioral decision theory and the development of decision analysis. He came to the UK in 1966 to take up a post at Brunel University, where he founded the Decision Analysis Unit (DAU). In 1982, he moved this unit to the LSE.
Professor Phillips has played an important role in developing socio-technical decision analysis methods and has conducted hundreds of decision conferences on strategic questions in the private and public sector. Professor Phillips is the recipient of the Frank P. Ramsey Medal, the highest distinction awarded by the Decision Analysis Society.

Alexander Schaub joined the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as an Of Counsel member in February 2007. His areas of expertise include financial services, internal market, public procurement and IP rights.
After gaining early practical experience at the German Federal Ministry of Economics, he worked for more than thirty years in a number of senior positions with the European Commission. He retired in June 2006 from his post as Director General for Internal Market and Services.

Sieghart Scheiter is Vice President of the Düsseldorf office of A.T. Kearney. He began his career in strategic consulting in 1982 and spent three-and-a-half years at A.T. Kearney in New York before returning to Düsseldorf in 1997. In his more than 20 years of international consulting experience, he has focused primarily on business strategy, M&A, divestments, restructuring and organization. Today, Sieghart Scheiter is the Director of A.T. Kearney’s Strategy and Organization Practice for Central Europe. 

Professor Detlof von Winterfeldt is director of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria. Before he was Director of the USC Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorist Events (CREATE), which is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. His research interests are in the foundation and practice of decision and risk analysis as applied to the areas of technology development, environmental risks, natural hazards and terrorism. He has served on several committees and panels of the National Science Foundation and the National Academies. In 2000, he was awarded the Ramsey Medal for distinguished contributions to the field of decision analysis. He is on leave from the University of Southern California (USC), where he is a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and a Professor of Public Policy and Management.
